Checking out the cheapest snare drum from Thomann: a Millenium 14" x 3.5" Piccolo steel snare drum. 1.0 mm steel shell, 1.6mm steel hoops, 12 high tension tune lugs. Costs: € 49 (or $68).
First with stock heads, then with a Remo Ambassador coated batter head, a Remo Ambassador snare side head and Gibraltar snares wires. Costs heads plus snare wires: € 34 (or $47).
One remark: some tension rods were pretty hard to turn in the tension casings and needed lubrication.
