Wait… whose face is on the $100 bill? 💵
Bay Area artist Mildred Howard replaced Benjamin Franklin with herself in this bold early artwork, created while studying fashion design at the College of Alameda. Now it’s been transformed into a massive mural installation at the Oakland Museum of California.
This piece marks one of the earliest examples of Howard’s signature use of collage, found materials, photography, printmaking, and self-portraiture. And yes, you can spot the original small version inside the exhibition 👀
“Mildred Howard: Poetics of Memory” is now on view. 🎟️ Tickets at the link in bio!
