Past prime 'El Maestro', usually a slow starter, takes a couple of rounds to get the gauge of the decent Puerto Rican Maldonado. A left hook early on seems to shake Canto, and his reflexes have dwindled, making it harder to be as evasive as he was in the '70s.
But as Canto gets into the fight his counters come quicker and his upper body movement start to get him in range to strike. And he does, scoring a rare knockdown with a clean left hook off the right hand. After that it's vintage Canto, although an odd DQ as the result of an 'illegal use of the head' which I can't spot and looks more likely to have come off a left hook that the camera doesn't catch either.
Anyway, Canto wins by DQ, which is a shame because the fight was a good one leading up to it and probably would've been a good one.
