A casual speedrun for the 1989 version of "Midnight Rescue". My strategy is to start a level, then immediately save and quit. I then play the level as intended, determining who the culprit is, and what clue is closest to the starting point. Then I close the game from the external window, which causes the game to default back to the previous save. I then play through the level in under 20 seconds, as I rush to the nearest clue and identify the culprit.
When I say this is a casual speedrun, I mean that I didn't restart every playthrough multiple times, in order to get optimal level layouts. Normally, the closest clue is in the drama room. It's faster if the clue is in the hallway, and fastest if the clue is right above the starting point (which happened only once in this run). It's also fastest if the culprit is Buffo, since he's first on the suspect list. An optimal run would have a Buffo culprit and a clue at the starting point, for every single playthrough.
My internal notes said the speedrun should be 9:30.39, so it's possible I missed a couple of seconds somewhere when making the timer. It was difficult to make the timer in this video, since it pauses so often.
