Muro Box is a magical music box that lets you play your own melodies over MIDI.
You can use their dedicated app, your own keyboards, a DAW, or even Bluetooth BLE to send MIDI messages that will pluck the music box’s tines to play your song.
From their site:
“Muro Box gives you the freedom of composing your own melodies and allows you to play a lifetime of memories in one mechanical music box. Muro Box has flexible pins on the cylinder to pluck the comb according to your programmed music. There is no capacity limitation on how many melodies you can upload to your music cloud library. Now, you can create as many playlists as you want to play your favorite melodies for different occasions.
There is no limitation on how many minutes that you can listen to music. But for better machine life and to maintain, it is recommended that you not to use it over 1 hour at a time. When the device is too warm, please turn it off for more than 15 minutes before using it again. Also by default, the maximum duration/length per song is set up at 30 minutes long to prevent your cell phone overload. Our product uses WIFI instead of bluetooth for connecting app and Muro Box, so you can use our app as a remote controller to play the meaningful music for your family even when you are not at home. What’s more, you can enjoy the whole song performed by a music box without keep turning the switch button.”
The current version is limited to notes in the C Major scale. Luckily for us, many of our tracks can be transposed to to work. Using the tombola arp on the OP-1 to trigger the boxes tines really makes a sound like the old Lullatone album “Little songs About Raindrops” The Muro Box isn’t super cheap, but it is well made. And since it was developed over years by a husband and wife team I was happy to order one. After doing Lullatone for so long with Yoshimi, I’m a real sucker for married couple duos : )
MIDI controllable music boxes might be a niche market, but I am definitely their target demographic!

![Bells Samples [FREE Kontakt, Ableton, and OP-1 patches]
Get the sounds here:
https://lullatonesamplesets.bandcamp.com/album/bells-sample-set-ableton-and-kontakt-instruments-in-zip
I made a sample library out of so many bells.
There are some colorful cute hand bells, a beautiful bell tree toy that used to sit in our sons window until he got too big for it, the entrance bell to our buddys bed and breakfast at a cabin in the mountains in Nagano, Japan, another big bell recorded at a campsite, some bicycle bells at the park, a special patch recorded onto an old Reader’s Digest cassette recorder from decades ago, and even a really dreamy patch made by looping just the soft sustains of a bell to get gorgeous drones.
I turned them into 10 patches for Native Instruments Kontakt, Ableton Live (Simpler and Sampler), the OP-1 by Teenage engineering, and even the original sample files are in there in case you want to import them into any other kind of sampler like fruity loops, logic or cubase.
I know bells aren’t the type of instrument you need to use every day, but maybe there will be some project that needs the melody doubled up with a ring or click-y attack tone. Or maybe you are doing some sound design for alarms or something and you need a rattling sound to grab people’s attention. Anyway, I hope somehow someday they help you make some nice melodies!
Let me know if you use them in something cool.
High fives,
Shawn / Lullatone

https://patatap.com [WARNING: FLASHING LIGHTS]
App for iOS: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/patatap/id880626868?ls=1&mt=8
Patatap is an audio visual beatbox that lets you play the internet like an instrument. When you open the Patatap site and type a letter on your keyboard (or touch the screen on the app) it simultaneously triggers an animation and sound in your browser allowing you to make polyphonic polyoptic beats and images at the same time. It is part art, app and instrument all rolled into one.
Patatap was originally released in 2014 by Jono Brandel and Lullatone.
For the 7 year anniversary, we updated the app to receive MIDI input. Now you can control the sound and visuals with external MIDI controllers or Ableton (send MIDI wirelessly using the IAC or network setting)
For the online version, just go to
https://patatap.com/?midi=true in Chrome
to use the MIDI enabled version. It should automatically detect any MIDI inputs. We hope you have a lot of fun playing with it!
Thanks for checking it out,
