Davester2296 | Mid-Garts - Recklessness 「Cover By DAR」 @DAR-Davester2296 | Uploaded April 2021 | Updated October 2024, 6 days ago.
Finally, the channel's first taste of Mid-Garts! Shoutout to ren for introducing me to this soundtrack, as well as his continuous support and votes for this title throughout several COVER BATTLEGROUNDS!
It was a real tough choice deciding between either this song, or "Rune Blade". In the end, I went with this one, mainly because I felt like it'd be a better introduction to this soundtrack here on the channel. While "Rune Blade" would make for a great straight-up rock tune, "Recklessness" both rocks and has several other elements that come with it. Plus I really love the little pauses during the chorus! It just gives so much impact when the next beat drops!
I tried my best to try and stay faithful to the original. I had approached this one imagining what a more modern rendition would sound like. As I listened to the track, I started to hear all the different instruments in my head. The piano was a no-brainer, but I had started hearing some brass/french-horns for the part that plays on the right side. Whereas on the left, I was hearing those parts as a string-section/symphony! I also felt like a violin really suited one of the other melodies! I also threw in some choirs in the background at times to make things sound even more grand and dramatic.
I feel like this song is a great combination of orchestral, electronic, and rock! The rock bit was easy: chugga-chugga noodle-noodle.
The electronic part came about, because of how I heard the drum parts during the verses. I kept thinking to myself "Man, this would sound awesome with some electronic drum samples!". I wound up using some VSTi's that I've had for a long time, but never actually played around with. I really love how the electronic drums came out here!
The other thing was the bass. While I played my bass guitar for a lot of things here, I wound up using some synths for the bass during the verses. I felt like the synths had the right kind of tone that fit with the electric-drums. Plus, I thought it helped add even more contrast between the verses and choruses.
I kept the original song structure intact, for the most part. Towards the end, I added a shortened (and rockin') verse and an extended chorus with a guitar solo thrown in!
One melody that I had changed up slightly was the violin part during the 2nd verse (2:17). I actually wound up making this change whilst I was already shooting the video! I had fat-fingered the keys and accidentally pressed G instead of F, and realized "Oh hey, this sounds kind of cool!" and then I wound up coming up with this slight variation of the melody. So after making my changes and rendering out the new audio, I continued the video-recording-process!
Speaking of the video, I decided to try something different with how I show the piano parts. 0:30 I think I might use this video-style in the future whenever I have sections where I'm not playing any of my guitars, but have lots of synth and keyboard stuff going on.
Anyways, I hope you all enjoy the cover! ~DAR
