The top of Helman Tor, a Neolithic hill settlement, gives stunning views over the myriad of wetlands that make up Redmoor and Breney Common, which flank the east of Mid Cornwall Moors SSSI. Historic tin streaming has helped to form an undulating landscape of heathland, wet woodland, eluvial ponds and flower rich meadows. Rare birds, butterflies and plants can be found here, such as the willow tit, marsh fritillary and pillwort, as well as a range of dragonflies.
Helman Tor and Redmoor are reserves managed by the Cornwall Wildlife Trust. More information on the sites’ wildlife can be found here.
