"It was okay. It took me awhile to find all of the endings.
I did like the uniqueness of researching biology only to come across something horrible. It has been done before and I am fairly certain I played something like this. However, this game had multiple endings. I like games where they have multiple endings. Doesn't matter how bad they are. I'm not saying this game is bad, I just said this game was okay.
If you want to try this game out yourself, it's free."

![The Cleaning Game v1.0.2.1 (Full Mod, No Commentary)
I have a LOT to say about this mod. [The description will contain spoilers]
At first, this game felt like the developer’s first mod made on Source. Which isn’t a bad thing. It’s good for people to try new things. However, I kept seeing things that I was uncertain if it was intended to be broken or not. There were a few times development tools to let developers know something was broken were used to purposefully show the player the gods of the cyber afterlife have yet to finish the world when the player arrives. Please don’t do that. It left me wondering if something actually was broken and not supposed to look like wireframes.
Now it took me waaay too long to figure out how to get to the other endings. There were a few points where I could chalk it up to me having some skill issues but I’m pretty sure sitting there and doing nothing for 20 minutes so the game would allow the player to progress requires no skill. This is the second time this happened to me. Insert the ‘I would have two nickels’ meme here.
What I liked about The Cleaning Game is the artstyle....When it’s not using Source’s developer textures. It’s colorful and whimsical. It does a fair job at masking how dystopian the world actually is. I also like the concept of this mod. Not a lot of games where cleaning things is the main thing. I do wish we could clean more than just one office. I’m not counting the training area.
As for the ‘main’ endings, they’re okay. As for the ‘death’ endings, I really wish the developer made things more clear that you needed to wait out the credits to access them. Or here’s a better idea. Get rid of the credits and only save them til the very end.
Speaking of endings, you would need to play through the whole game multiple times to get to the death endings. I really don’t have that kind of patience. I’m sorry. You will catch me cheating a few times to speed things up.
Now don’t take this the wrong way, but I am not the target audience for the writing style. It felt like the text wasn’t taking itself seriously. Now, I know that’s the point, but it reached the point where some of it felt like ‘Ha-ha, no one’s going to read this because it will be unreadable in the future heh-heh. I will now randomly type random letters on the keyboard and no one can stop me! Aiahiaehuaeihialuhuhilfhuuenvzlfbheios”. I understand the developer was having fun making this, I just really hope I’m the oddball for overthinking things.
Important note, please for the love of whatever god you believe in, don’t use ‘host_timescale’ for game development purposes. The speed of outputs will be adjusted alongside time. So if you slow everything down, the outputs will take forever to activate. I understand having a ‘cool’ effect for running low on batteries but there are FAAAARRR better ways to do this.
I have a question, where are the humans? There are a few that can be heard, but no one is visible. All of the other machines say humans are horrible creatures, but where are they? The only two that I heard were relatively nice. I understand Portal 2’s branch of Source doesn’t really do human NPCs, but they can still be props. I am fairly certain ‘actor_generic’ is still a thing in Portal 2.
Also, why is ‘noclip’ available at the very start of the game? It should only work when ‘sv_cheats’ is set to 1. ‘Sv_cheats’ should not be enabled on start because this implies something has gone wrong and server cheats need to be on in order to fix things. I find it quite funny seeing the obstacle course map is the only map where cheats are turned off so the player can’t cheat.
One more thing before I end this wall of text, what is pressing ‘R’ supposed to do? The options tell me ‘Say Hello! :D’ but when I look it up in the console, the command does nothing. Also, the command is ‘ask_for_help’. I thought I was saying hello, not asking for a walkthrough. I would forgive that fact if it did help me walkthrough the game since the mod is too new and no walkthroughs of it exist yet. So it is entirely possible I missed something.
As for the demo, I’ve only touched on it for this video since I suspect the developer is going to turn this into a proper game. If you want me to play through it, please let me know. I can tell you this, it is not a traditional demo. I love non-traditional demos.
Overall, Please for the sweet love of god or whatever you believe in, put this back into the oven. It may look like it’s done, but the insides are too raw. The mod looks promising but there are faar too many issues for me to properly enjoy it.
