In January, 1986 Michael set up the “Michael Jackson UNCF Endowed Scholarship Fund”. This $1.5 million fund is aimed towards students majoring in performance art and communications, offering financial assistance each year to students attending a UNCF member college or university. The award varies, but can be up to $4,000 per student. Recipients may use these funds to pay for tuition, room and board, books, or to pay federal student loans. This fund perpetually renews & the interest of this fund pays the scholarships each year, while the original investment continues to earn interest allowing UNCF to offer more aspiring students awards each year. The fund is still active to this day and an average of 40 students per year will continue to be named recipients of the Michael Jackson Scholarship.
