Demonstration of the "MHz Sub-Alert Mode 1" configuration on a Keywest Technology (initially Video Data Systems) 840 character generator. This was created by setting 'MHz Sub-Alert Mode' on my Sage ENDEC to 1 and sending a Required Weekly Test.
This was originally recorded to answer any potential "can you recreate VDS green screen on the keywest?" comments I might receive, given the last video uploaded when I recorded this was a video showing this machine off: youtu.be/YdANjPVm7B0
There is no way to my knowledge to remove the '99;99;' in the upper left, as far as I know that's just something this CG does. Presumably, the base 840 units weren't designed to be used in an Emergency Alert System setup. (there were specific models aimed towards usage in EAS configurations, specifically the 840-EAS.)
2025 EDIT: Assuming there weren't that many differences besides the font changes between this and the original Video Data Systems 840 (see the other video I uploaded about this for details), I wonder if it's possible to replicate this screen on it, however I have yet to come across a functional unit secondhand, if at all. (aside from a VDS 840 EAS, however it has not been tested I do not have one in my possession currently.)
