MGTT Matchplay Server: discord.gg/7EBUwSNaGq
Here is a new short series from a new MGTT Match Play tournament that spawned from Discord. This follows a unique format that adds new layers to the competitive meta as it currently stands. This Random Open differs as follows:
- Courses randomly selected for brackets
- Matches compromised of best-of-3 sets of "Random 9" match games, with the tiebreaker being a "Random 3" game.
- Each set eliminates one character from your roster of 16 characters for the whole tournament. Once your roster is exhausted, you get a reset.
- A coin flip decides a player who gets to decide if they want to go 1p or 2p. This can be advantageous to either take a character an opponent might have wanted to use, or to scout your opponent and have second-shot advantage. Loser of each set gets priority for the next set.
This match is against BigNick at Blooper Bay from Back Tees. BigNick has gotten much better since Toasty Tour 5. Having fallen to losers, it started becoming a dilemma what characters to use. I knew I still wanted to preserve balanced and power characters for later. I used Daisy, Peach, and Waluigi for my games. BigNick used Boo, Koopa Troopa and Diddy Kong. I lost the coinflip, so I needed to pick Daisy to scout the first set; lost, then came back the next two sets. I didn't want to use Waluigi, hoping to save him for Grand Finals, but I needed to win.
