One of the UK's top vinyl mastering engineers Matt Colton shows us his new mastering studio at Metropolis Studios with Neumann VMS 80 lathe and runs through his equipment in the mastering console.
Matt isn't just a mastering engineer, he's a record collector. He loves music and his ability to make records sound fantastic has drawn him clients from all over the World. He's recently moved to Metropolis Studios so we were really keen to pop by and catch up. Fellow mastering engineer Mike Hillier showed us in to Matt's room and got the conversation started.
Matt's mastering career started around 1997 and Matt has mastered records for many artists including Arctic Monkeys, Thom Yorke, Manic Street Preachers, George Michael, Coldplay, Aphex Twin, Elbow and Hot Chip.
Matt is a top vinyl mastering engineer and very good at half speed cutting to give extra clarity and some of the people who've employed his talents include Peter Gabriel.
Matt Colton was awarded the Music Producers Guild (MPG) Mastering Engineer of the year award in 2013 and 2018.
