Recording a band live in the studio doesn't have to be a battle against bleed. In this session at the iconic Slate Room Studios, engineer Garry Boyle demonstrates why fighting spill with baffles and isolation isn't always the answer. Instead, he shows how choosing the right microphones and keeping musicians in close proximity can actually create a more cohesive, "glued" recording.
We start with a full live performance, followed by Garry taking us onto the studio floor to break down his mic choices and placement. Finally, we head into the control room for a detailed mix walkthrough where Garry solos individual instruments to show how he shapes the sound and uses the spill to his advantage.
