Messmer is an extremely difficult boss in Shadow of the Erdtree. I HIGHLY recommend equipping armor with fire mitigation, including the best shield you can manage to hold. Upgrade it so you don't lose as much stamina when blocking, and pay close attention to his delayed swings. He will drag the spear on the ground to freak you out, but don't dodge until you actually see it get close to you.
For phase 2, attack the snakes and keep swinging when Messmer is coming back up!

Galian Beast is a really, really tough boss, made only more difficult by having Cait Sith in your party, especially if you havent gotten the hang of using him yet. The best thing to do is charge up your ATB and wait for him to cast Inner Turmoil or Chaotic Consumption, then use Infinitys End with Cloud. Moogle Knuckle can also knock him out, if it deals high damage.
