This aircraft is Bf 108D-1 N2231, Werknummer 3059. It was built in 1942 and was among the last Bf 108s made before production moved to occupied France. After the war in Europe ended, it was in an unknown unit coded VE+LI when it was captured by the RAF. It was operated by them as one of their 19 "Messerschmitt Aldons" with Air Ministry number AM 87, until it made its way with an owner in Switzerland, with civil reg. HB-DUB and later HB-ESK. It was exported to the US in 1968 where it eventually ended up in the Commemorative Air Force's inventory with its current civil registration. It was initially with the New Mexico Wing in Hobbs, NM, then the 3rd Pursuit Squadron in San Bernardino, CA, then finally, as of Summer 2020, the Southern California Wing in Camarillo, CA! This aircraft still has the original Argus As 10 inverted air-cooled V8, with a very neat sound.
