Hi there! Here's my instrumental guitar cover of "By the Ton" by Meshuggah, I hope you like it!

- Rhythm guitars: Archetype: Gojira
- Ambient guitars: Archetype: Gojira
- Bass: Darkglass Ultra - Amplitube 5
- Drums: GGD Invasion + GGD Modern Fusion

For the rhythm guitars, I used the first distortion pedal in Gojira, the second amp, and the third cab. Boosted a little 100, 1k, 5k and above with an EQ after the plugin. For tracking, I did the usual. Did about 3 takes for each section and cut out the best parts, although I didn't do a lot of that. I did pretty much no editing and alignment, it just sounds good kinda loose to me.

I did basically the same thing for bass as I did in "Ivory Tower," but without the fuzz pedal. Did a lot of multiband compression.

Drums were fun, I used the kick, toms, and cymbals from Invasion and the snare from Modern Fusion. I compressed the fuck out of the snare, multiband comped it, used Analog Obsessions Tuba on it and sent it to Logic's Chromaverb. I also used Chromaverb for the rest of the drums.

I've also been doing this thing where on a lot of the big downbeats, I boost the kick by like 5dB. I think it makes thing's more impactful.

I use a Canon M50 with a Sigma F/1.4 30mm lens. I think I did a better job with the framing this time. I only recorded 6 shots, but I think it was interesting enough.

~ * ~ T H E S O N G ~ * ~

This is one of my favorite Meshuggah songs, super sludgy and heavy. I love how through-composed it is, the 32 bars or so of no repetition at (2:44) is soooooo good and really satisfying to learn. That's probably my favorite section. But yeah, this song's gotten me into a lot of other sludgy stuff (I've been digging Admiral Angry, Black Sheep Wall, and Gaza lately). Actually, I kinda based some of my mix decisions off of Admiral Angry's Buster album.
