What is Daze Before Christmas?
Daze Before Christmas is a festive and often overlooked SNES platformer that puts you in the boots of Santa Claus himself, racing against time to save Christmas after his elves and presents are scattered across the world. Developed by Funcom and published by Sunsoft, the game originally released in 1994 and stands out as one of the very few true Christmas-themed games from the 16-bit era.
The game features classic side-scrolling platform action, where Santa battles evil snowmen, mischievous enemies, and quirky bosses using magical dust and clever power-ups hidden inside presents. One of its most unique twists is the Anti-Claus transformation, temporarily turning Santa into a stronger but more limited version of himself. Between levels, you’ll even take to the skies in Santa’s sleigh, delivering gifts down chimneys around the globe.
Originally released only in Europe and Australia, the SNES version never saw an official North American launch, making it a bit of a hidden gem and a favorite among retro collectors today..
