Here is a video I made for MercyMe's latest song "Say I Won't." I read about the story behind the song. The song is about the true story of a man named Gary Miracle (his real name). Gary was a long-time member of MercyMe's crew, i.e., part of the production team. But in early 2020 he went into septic shock and was hospitalized for over three months, during which time all of his lower limbs had to be amputated. The song is specifically about Gary's perseverance and his faith in God to adjust to a new way of life.
There are already several very good videos on YouTube about Gary's story. I wouldn't attempt to try to top them. So I took a more general tack that is more broad in nature, which applies to a great many of us. What I took away from the song was a message of fulfillment, i.e., making a difference in the world. The key line in the song that struck me was the one that says "I'm gonna know what it means to *live*, not just "be alive." Many of us get stuck in a rut, or we get complacent, and just end up spinning our wheels. This song is about stepping up and making a commitment to make a difference, despite what others may say. When others doubt our ability to "make a difference", this song responds "Oh, yeah? Say I won't!" And how do we start to do that? We read Philippians 4:13 over and over again : "I can do *all* things through Christ who strengthens me."
