I have been tasked with the challenge to make videos to go along with songs written by my friend Sandy Soffe from Pennsylvania that go along with the Twelve Steps endorsed by Celebrate Recovery. The Celebrate Recovery Twelve Steps are pretty much the same as the Twelve Steps used by Alcoholics Anonymous. While AA uses the vague phrase "higher power", Celebrate Recovery's version makes it very clear that that "higher power" is Jesus Christ. Step 2 reassures us that if we complete Step One and admit that our lives have become unmanageable that if we submit ourselves to God that he will restore us to sanity. What is sanity? Of course, it's the opposite of insanity. What is insanity? Well, everyone has heard this definition before, but I am going to repeat it anyway. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Been there, done that. God will restore us to sanity, guide us in a new direction, so that we don't keep repeating our same mistakes over and over. He will make a way, where there seems to be no way.
Step Two says:
"We came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity."
