Over the weekend I flew down to San Diego and had a one day whirlwind food tour including these two excellent eateries in Kearney Mesa. Menya Ultra is an award winning ramen shop imported from the Akita region of Japan specializing in delicious tonkotsu style ramen. The broth is refined; rich and creamy without being fatty. The noodles are fresh made daily on premise using the finest milled wheat from Hokkaido. Down the street is Iceskimo serving Taiwanese shaved ice your way. Order your shaved ice flavor, pile in the toppings from the toppings bar, weigh, and pay by the ounce. Or order from their "favorites" menu of house special creations like the Bruce Lychee and Cookie Monster. New this year are the affogatos with hand whisked sauces like black sesame, matcha, coffee, and horchata to pour on top of your ice! Def worth a quick foodie trip down!
