Civil Service sick leave is increasing, with the Government pointing to a range of factors including mental health, workload pressures and the lasting effects of the pandemic.
The average sickness rate rose from 3.3% in 2022 to 3.5% in 2023 and 3.6% in 2024, remaining at 3.6% in 2025.
In response to the trend, the Government told GBC that work is underway to strengthen to staff support systems and promote earlier intervention. Initiatives include improving manager awareness and training as well as fostering healthier working environments across the public service.
