I've had this old cine film found in a house clearance converted some time ago and have always wondered what to do with it. This is silent footage of the 1971 British Ice Dance Championships and is very interesting due to the fact that it probably represents some of the earliest footage of the Original Set Dance as it was called back then. 1970-71 was the first season whereby the rhythm was prescribed by the ISU so prepare for some Polka!! All the music choices are my own and hopefully they help to bring this footage back to life.
Also held during this competition were the men's and ladies free skating competitions won by none other than John Curry and 1973 European silver medallist Jean Scott.
One notable absence from the roster was Janet Sawbridge (the coach who put Jayne Torvill & Christopher Dean together) and her partner Peter Dalby. They were injured I believe but were later named to the World and European teams.
