In this members-exclusive Livestream event, Adam Weinert will weave together a selection of training exercises, archival media, and personal narrative by pioneering choreographer Ted Shawn in conversation with ICA Miami members and staff. Weinert will focus on Shawn’s contributions to modern dance and LGBTQ+ history with his seminal work Dance of the Ages (1938), recently reconstructed for the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival and a forthcoming performance at ICA Miami.
A key figure in the development of modern dance, Ted Shawn is best known as the founder of Jacob’s Pillow, a performance center and school in Lenox, MA. His choreography radically questioned traditional notions of masculinity that helped to legitimize dancing as a profession for men.
Adam Weinert is a dancer, researcher, and choreographer based in Hudson NY.
