It warms my heart to see a good ROM Hack of Mega Man 1. Even though the official MM1 was a rough game, it inspired me to create some interesting videos related to challenges and even memes (Fun Fact: the very first upload I did for this channel was a Mega Man 1 challenge: “How to beat Cut Man with the Hyper Bomb”)¹
So I was quite glad to see that _Megaman 1 - The New Lands Remastered_ is a very good ROM Hack of Mega Man 1 created by Timaeus (romhacking) and Red Bun (additional sprites). Here players will find good level design overall with new stages (beautiful graphics and interesting layouts), new enemies, new gimmicks, new bosses (both in their visuals and A.I.), new special weapons, and even a heart container item that works as some sort of sub-tank (replacing the get-out-of-platforming-challenges-free-card Magnet Beam!)
Difficulty-wise, this is a quite accessible ROM Hack, which makes it a very good pick for those who want to try ROM Hacks but may be concerned with their (usually) higher difficulty. So get ready for an amazing hack that feels like a completely new game!
P.S. This is the version 1.2 of _Megaman 1 - The New Lands Remastered_. There is a version 1.3, but one of the changes in that most recent version is that it simplifies bosses’ patterns, which is the opposite of what I’m looking for; therefore, I decided to keep the challenge of the previous version, as fighting bosses is what I enjoy the most in Mega Man games (and I prefer more complex bosses’ A.I. to deal with).

This charming SAGE 2025 demo of the fangame Mega Hat offers 5 stages (Intro + 4 Met Masters’ stages) for players to experience a day in the life of a Met. You’ll be able to feel the power of an immovable object by using your (very) hard hat to reflect shots back to foes!
Unfortunately, since this is a challenge video, you won’t see that new mechanic here, but I strongly recommend that you try out that wonderful shield when playing this demo. It’s awesome! Just keep in mind that glowing projectiles cannot be reflected (they will pierce through your hat and deal damage).
All in all, a solid demo worth one’s time. I’m looking forward to the full game!
