So depending on whether Zero is still around or not will determine who comes to X's rescue when he's corned by Sigma. If Zero is around, he comes in, having received an Anti-Virus vaccine from Doppler that he uses on Sigma. If Zero is not around, Doppler comes instead, forcefully taking Sigma inside himself, having already using the vaccine on himself, taking both of them out in the process. The lab explodes and we get the usual cliffside monologue. The credits sequence is an FMV this time around, intersplicing animated bits that took place before X1.
