Vantage is Google Research's experiment in closing that gap. Developed in collaboration with researchers at the University of Texas at Austin, New York University, and the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship, the system uses GenAI to construct evaluative environments where students engage with AI participants on structured tasks. The interaction is designed to feel natural, but its purpose is rigorous: assessing skill level through observed behavior rather than self-report. The team describes the goal as "making the invisible visible."
