Why is this robot covering its face while running?

Tiangong Omni, a humanoid robot developed by Beijing-based X-Humanoid, grabbed the 400-meter small-group title at the 2nd World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing with a time of 45.66 seconds.

Its unusual sprinting posture — appearing to cover its face with both hands — wasn't designed by its engineers. According to its developers, the robot developed the posture itself through repeated simulated learning and iteration, eventually finding a running style that worked better for it.
