Ronald Sakolsky, a retired American teacher, returned to China over two decades after he contributed to China's desertification control efforts.
Sakolsky donated money to Yin Yuzhen to support her efforts to plant saplings in the barren Maowusu (Mu Us) Sandy Land in 1999. Later he was invited to meet Yin and her husband in person.
Now Sakolsky has been invited to return to China to see the results of his donations and reunite with his old friend Yin.
Today, the saplings purchased with Sakolsky's donation have grown into a thriving forest, and the Mu Us desert stands as one of the world's largest ecological restoration success story.
