The statistics for the losses at the battle of prozverka deserve a giant asterisk. Many Russian tanks were abandoned with minimal damage while the fanatical SS were more likely to fight to the death. The Russians recovered 400 damaged tanks after the battle. Bringing irreparable tank casualties to:
Germans - 48
Russians - approx. 250.
The exact number of vehicles destroyed per tiger loss is under some dispute. The Germans counted a immobilized tank as a 'kill'. Many tanks 'killed' by tigers were restored to working order shortly after. It can be hard to find a good estimate since many of the figures on both sides were exaggerated for propaganda purposes, where possible I based my estimates on the battle readiness reports from each side. As these are usually the most reliable reports. However while I could find exact readiness reports for each side overall, I couldn't find exact numbers for the tiger tanks. Even if I had found those numbers they would have been skewed due to the tigers constant noncombat related breakdowns. I did the best with the numbers I had.
