Meet Lead Zoologist Shana F. and Louie!
Passion, dedication, and conservation focused. Three things that you'll hear quite often to describe our zoologists. That is especially true for Shana F., one of our lead zoologists here at the Dallas Zoo. She works with reptiles, invertebrates, and amphibians, and plays a significant role in our successful breed and release program, helping bolster numbers for Texas horned lizards, Puerto Rican crested toads, Houston toads, and more.
Shana has a special place in her heart for Louie the Grand Cayman blue iguana. She describes Louie as sweet, calm, and a "big ham." Louie lived in his behind-the-scenes habitat for a while, and that’s when Shana had the chance to spend time interacting with him, forming the strong bond they share now.
Louie, like many animals at the Dallas Zoo, is an ambassador for his species in the wild. Shana, like all our zoologists, help educate the public on the species they care for, to make sure you know best how you can help us Create a Better World for Animals.
