Meet Dr. Katsí Yarí Rodríguez Velázquez, mentor and professor across various institutions in Puerto Rico and Latin America and Hybrid Fellow for 2024-2025 of Rooted + Relational!
Katsí specializes in Black feminisms, the expression and thought of Black women, and the intricate dynamics of race and gender relations in the Spanish-speaking Caribbean.
Katsí holds an M.A. in Cultural Action and Management from the University of Puerto Rico, alongside both an M.A. and Ph.D. in Africana Studies from Brown University. Her project explores the profound decolonial practices embedded in the works of Black Puerto Rican writers. By developing courageous reading practices, she confronts the silencing of these voices and helps forge new memories that honor their contributions.
