We are delighted that internationally acclaimed Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos joined us as the Guest of Honour at BRAFA 2025!
Renowned for her monumental sculptures and thought-provoking installations, Vasconcelos (*1971) infuses her work with humour, irony, and a sharp critique of contemporary society. Her artistic journey has taken her to some of the world’s most prestigious venues, including Château de Versailles, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, and Palazzo Pitti in Florence, cementing her position as a leading figure in contemporary art.
At BRAFA 2025, she shows two of her spectacular Valkyries textile sculptures inspired by Norse mythology: Seondeok, named after the first Korean queen in the history of the country, and Léonie La Fontaine, named after the Belgian pioneering feminist and pacifist. These vibrant, larger-than-life creations have transformed Brussels Expo with their bold colours, rich textures, and monumental forms, offering an immersive experience like no other.
