Meet Dr. Keishla Rivera-López, a literary and cultural studies scholar, writer, and poet focused on Latina/o and Caribbean literature and Research Associate for 2024-2025 of Rooted + Relational!
She earned her PhD in American Studies from Rutgers University, where she received the 2019-2020 Dean’s Dissertation Fellowship. Her work has been featured in prestigious publications such as Centro Journal, Label Me Latina/o, and The Acentos Review. Dr. Rivera-López is currently working on her first book, “Boricua Projects: Puerto Ricans Rewriting Culture, Motherhood, and Memory Beyond Archives,” which explores how marginalized communities use alternative ways of knowing to challenge dominant narratives about Puerto Rican identity.
Through her engagement with alternative archives and memory projects, Dr. Rivera-López centers the voices of underrepresented communities, preserving complex histories. Her advocacy aims to re-narrate the Puerto Rican experience, emphasizing inclusivity and diverse perspectives in cultural narratives.
Founded in 1973 by a coalition of students, faculty, and activists, the Center for Puerto Rican Studies at Hunter College (CENTRO) is the largest university-based research institute, library, and archive dedicated to the Puerto Rican experience in the United States.
