Tech Ambrosia | MediaGX (with a ViRGE) Runs DOSbench - Speedup in Doom, Quake, others... @TechAmbr | Uploaded May 2021 | Updated October 2024, 56 minutes ago.
Answering a viewer question about using a discrete VGA card instead of the built-in VGA provided by the MediaGX itself.
This video also includes comparisons between the internal graphics and the ViRGE 325 PCI, in case you missed the last video.
Adding a discrete VGA card does indeed increase performance, with most games seeing a 10-30% improvement in framerates.
Except for Doom. Whatever Doom is doing with the VGA hardware, the Cyrix's built-in VGA logic does NOT like it. Wow! What a performance delta!
