McKenzie Hills Announces Haunting New Doom Metal Album ‘Ice Crossing’ via Electric Desert Records
Sevastopol, RUSSIA — Emerging once again from the shadowy echoes of war-torn landscapes, doom metal unit McKenzie Hills unveils their latest full-length album, Ice Crossing , released June 13, 2025, via Electric Desert Records .
Formed in 2016 by three longtime friends entrenched in Sevastopol’s underground music scene, McKenzie Hills is known for their distinctive sound: dense, crushing, and purposefully oppressive . Blending slow-burning riff structures with fuzz-drenched dual bass guitar assault (eschewing the traditional second guitar), the band delivers an atmosphere that is as bleak as the historical weight behind their lyrics.
Ice Crossing is a visceral experience — a dirge steeped in the brutal realities of World War II , specifically the Crimean campaigns of 1941–1944. Each track serves as an audio monument to the suffering and sacrifice endured on the battlefield surrounding the Sevastopol region, including the infamous McKenzie Hills for which the band is named.
The album was recorded at Music Studio “Seratonin” in Sevastopol , with a lineup that features session musicians on drums and other instruments to complete the sonic onslaught. McKenzie Hills channels the oppressive gravity of bands like Paradise Lost , Bongtower , and Pallbearer , but pushes their own identity with a suffocating wall of fuzz, an eerie sense of melody, and relentless minimalism.
