From a control room in the heart of our research vessel Rachel Carson, a team of pilots and scientists fly the submersible as we explore the waters down to 1,800 meters (a little more than one mile) below the surface.

Since 1988, Ventana has explored the depths of Monterey Bay, logging the most science dives of any remotely operated vehicle in the world. It has been critical to MBARI’s mission to advance marine science and engineering to understand our changing ocean.
