Mayo beat Kerry to reach the 1996 All Ireland Football Final.
Just over 33,000 were in Croke Park to watch Mayo beat Kerry and head to the County's first All Ireland Final for nine years.
Managed by John Maughan, Mayo dominated much of the game and it was mainly Maurice Fitzgerald who kept Kerry in touch with their opponents.
It's no more than Mayo has deserved.
In a scrappy first half with four minutes to half time, James Nallen finished off a terrific Mayo attack to give his side the lead by 1-05 to 0-04. So quick was Kerry's response that the live television coverage almost missed a speculative long range effort from Sean Burke which was misjudged by Mayo keeper John Madden and ended up in the back of the net. The Mayo response was immediate and a David Nestor point was followed by two Maurice Sheridan frees to leave Mayo 1-08 to 1-04 at half time.
A couple of times in the second half Kerry managed to narrow the gap to two points. With three and a half minutes left Maurice Sheridan landed a long range free and Mayo were three points ahead again. James Horan won the ball and his shot caught Kerry keeper Declan O'Keefe off his line and it finished in the back of the net ending any hope of a Kerry come back.
The final score was Mayo 2-13 Kerry 1-10
