Emerging from the dark mind of Matron Thorn in 2019 in Tampere, Finland, the first album, released independently in 2022, Heavenly Darkrealm Beckoning, was a harrowing work of deeply nightmarish personal introspection, in the shape of dark ambient music and drone. Sixteen albums followed, each with a musical identity of its own, yet undeniably bearing the artistic signature of Matron Thorn.

Materiæ Abyssu has recorded its most ambitious and outré work to date in 2025: Aëthÿrinn Na Viixhra, merging dense elements of Dark Ambient, Industrial and Darkwave. To be released via the Greek occult and spiritual record label Zazen Sounds on CD and Digital formats, as well as long-standing Canadian Dark Ambient record label Dark Odyssey Records on Cassette Tape.

A landmark recording in the history of Materiæ Abyssu, Aëthÿrinn Na Viixhra sees the project joined by female vocalist Ishtariæ, whose voice and performance ascend the recording to demonic mystical heights of nightward majesty, hinting at ominous allegiances better left untold.
