A PAL only release for the Master System released in 1990. The game is short but it is so so hard!. The game requires a Joypad to be in Port 2 to play and a Light Phaser Gun if you have one in port 1. Joypad is still needed for grenades if you play with the gun. I play with just the joypad dragging the gun sights around the screen. The trick is not to waste ammo by holding the button down. You might clear the screen quick but you wont have any ammo left for the next rounds. health management is very tricky as you take damage if a soldier so much as looks at you and there is only one medicine pot on each level which only gives a few units of health back. I end the video with the death scene after the game loops.

Arcade port of Galaxy Force II to the Sega Saturn released in 1998 as part of Sega Ages releases.
This version only runs at 30fps but that said, none of the other home versions were ported as well as this one due to the hardware requirements of this game. Theres no extras as far as I know. Just a straight port of the game with some story element at the start/end. I show a complete run through of the game. There is also a Model Play mode which is just letting the game play it self from start to end.

A little known Labrinth style platformer that looks like it might be fun in the screenshots but you will soon find frustrating after leaving the first room. You goal is to guide your time traveller across the levels visiting each room and collecting anything in there and moving on. The important items are the shards, eggs and Tweezles. Collect the keys, unlock the doors and go through the time gate to the next level, simples!
Except everything in the game is out to kill you. Its not enough to avoid the enemies (they cant be killed), the walls, and other objects will also stop you as well as floors with no carpets. This requires some carful jetpacking in tight corridors with only one or two pixels between you, the walls and moving enemies. If you run into a monster, you lose energy...fast. This can be replenished by collecting food. Hitting the walls or bar floor, bushed, stair rails, many any other objects and lets not forget random background appearances of enemies coming out of the walls which all zapp you causing you re-enter the room from where you came in usually without losing energy. This is its way of being fair I suppose.
There are some forks in the rooms allowing for slightly different routes through the levels, maybe one safer than the other and you dont have other pressures placed upon you like limited jet pack fuel or time but with that said, dont stay in a room too long as it will fill with cosmic rays sending you back to the door you entered. You dont need to collect every eggs, shard or even Teezle but best to do so as you dont want to find out at the gate you missed something. (Four Teezles on level one, five on two and six on three) Shards can give you a speed boost, invulnerability for a shoot time or can be bad reversing your controls or maybe nothing at all.
Collision detection is mostly fair but still not much room for error. If the first level was as difficult as it got, then the game might be passable. But level two steps up the frustration with grass, vines, trees and some really tight spaces to manoeuvre through. level three steps it up yet again with bendy rocky caverns which really test your dexterity.
Overall, a very frustrating with not much fun to be had unless you really like unfair challenges. If you a super fan of Airwolf on the C64 then this game is for you. One level would have been enough but you have to survive three. Its hardly the best looking Amiga game no doubt working within the Atari ST limits although there is some added speech I guess. Red Rat made few games and the title music here is familiar to anyone that has played Lombard RAC Rally.
Fun note: The opening room has a picture of Pob above the fireplace which was a childrens tv programme in the UK on Channel four. Pob lives inside the tv and gains you attention by backing on the screen. What its connection is with the game, I do not know.

One thousand years ago, a Great War threatened to engulf the galaxy. The United Government was formed to stop the impending Armageddon. Now there is a new threat called Lifespeed. Instead of war, disputes about resources and survival are settled on the track. Each rider is forced to compete for their planet’s survival and for the chance to become Archon. You are Cypher Reid.
There are not many racers on the the 3DS and even fewer tunnel shooters and the handheld was crying out for a Wipeout like game making full use of the 3d effect. Lifespeed attempts to fill that void and if you were to just look at a screenshot, you would be forgiven for thinking that Lifespeed has nailed it. Before I focus on the negatives Ill just say that graphically, it does look the part and the 3D effect works quite well.
First impressions matter and the long loading times in this game doesnt fill you with confidence considering its a small eshop budget title. The games story mode serves as a tutorial of sorts requiring only a 3rd place win to progress in the later stages. There are only eight tracks with a bit of story between them and just as it seems to get good and about to conclude, completing the final race shockingly leaves you hanging, like the developers had had enough. It doesnt tell you but you also unlock The Huntar for use in championship mode if you manage to kill him in the final race. The alt ending for not killing him is at the end of the video.
Control wise, ship movement is quite sensitive with just slight button taps needed else you fly into the walls. The game auto accelerates but you have a brake button for those tight turns as well as rolls if you need a quick dodge. Boosts and weapon can be collected by flying through the rings. You can only hold one weapon at a time and weapons will be replaced if flying through a ring while holding one. The weapons are however fairly disappointing rarely able to hit the opponent or do enough damage to matter.
In the longplay, I open up with the story mode. I play on Chosen One difficulty which may as well be called impossible. Whilst I get through it, it is not very entertaining as you cant really eliminate the opposing ships and its a constant fight for that 3rd place finish as all the opponents seem to be faster than you and have a habit of catching up right at the end. I follow this up with a play through championship mode using the unlocked huntar but set it a little easier in the hope of showing some eliminations. Its not to surprising that nothing special happened for completing it.
Overall its a flawed but not bad game that could have been so much better. I quite like its music but it somehow doesnt quite fit the game.

Sonic is here to save the day, and this time he’s got help from his friend Tails! Dr. Eggman (AKA Dr. Robotnik) is back and is planning on building his ultimate weapon, the Death Egg. To do so, he’s going to turn the animal inhabitants of Mobius into his own personal army of Badniks. Can Sonic obtain the seven Chaos Emeralds and stop him once and for all?
3D Sonic The Hedgehog 2 is remastered in 3D and full of new features! Is the Chemical Plant Zone your favourite stage? Use “Stage Select” and start running wherever you want! Run fast without worrying about your rings. Cut your losses by choosing Ring Keeper Mode—only half your rings will be lost after taking damage! Keeping your rings and stopping Dr. Eggman’s evil scheme is important, but don’t forget to take some time off from saving the world to play against your friends in the two-player Vs. and Co-op Mode using Local Play!
The standalone eShop downloadable release is being played here. The game is also available as part of the Japanese exclusive Sega 3D Reprint Archives 3: Final Stage (セガ3D復刻アーカイブス3 FINAL STAGE, Sega 3D Fukkoku Ākaibusu 3 FINAL STAGE).
The longplay makes use of Ring Keeper Mode. Not that I need it but interesting to show this difference in the 3ds release. It makes it so you only lose half your rings when taking damage as well as starting each stage with 10 rings. It takes away some of the frustration for the casual or new player. We have longplays of the original game to view if you wish to see the game as originally intended.
For Sonic 2, pretty much every aspect of the game has been improved over the original game. Much more graphically detailed and moves much faster while allowing sonic to actually run without an obstacle in the way every few steps. I play in the default Sonic&Tails mode but the option is there to play with just sonic or just tails although tails cant get the super form.
The Special stages are probably the most annoying parts of the game especially with both sonic and tails as you need to time movements that allows tails to move in time before running into bombs losing any coins collected. I get all seven special stages and emeralds out of the way at the start of the game during Emerald Hill. This unlocks super sonic for the rest of the game and I just aim to get out of the level by whatever means without worrying about collectables or routs although in hindsight this really cheesing the game as you become invulnerable and can make quick work of the bosses. I have consciously tried to not activate it to early so that the stage music gets a chance to play.
Upon completion with best ending, Super Sonic Mode is unlocked to use from the start. I show briefly the Japanese region version with screen filter and Mega-Drive 2 audio as well as Stage Select mode and the bad ending.
