A hundred years later, Masada becomes the scene of a Jewish catastrophe. After the Romans put down the Jewish uprising and Jerusalem goes up in flames in 70 AC, the last remaining Jews gather in the fortress of Masada. In 72 AC, the Romans begin the siege of the seemingly impregnable fortress.
UNESCO has been protecting the world's most valuable natural and cultural monuments as the "Heritage of Mankind" since 1972. The television series “Treasures of the World” shows these places in impressive images.
