Chaos ensues as this video goes back to the age of vikings and Norse myths. Briefly covering the different interpretations of Thor, Odin and Loki as presented in comics and the Prose and Poetic Edda.
Marvel’s Thor made his debut in Journey into Mystery #83 from 1962. This version was co-created by Jack Kirby, Larry Lieber and Stan Lee with inks by Joe Sinnott.
The Marvel comics take from the Prose and Elder Edda, however, they mix in some science fiction elements. All of the elements are there: the nine realms, Asgard, Mjolnir, Jormungandr the World Serpent, Helheim, Surtur, Ragnarok. Some of the myths are…crazier than others. These myths have been passed down for at least a thousand years and are still imprinted onto people’s collective memory.
This video looks at where these myths and comics differ and match up. (No Throg or Beta Ray Bill in the mythology, sadly.)
