Cartoonist, archivist, historian and pioneer Trina Robbins was part of a lot of progression in her life. She also designed the character Vampirella. In 1986, after its Crisis on Infinite Earths event, DC Comics planned to revamp its characters for a new generation of readers.
Robbins, born in New York in 1938 was a fan of comics characters like Mary Marvel, Sheena and of course, Wonder Woman, He wanted to do a Wonder Woman series for DC. So in between Crisis and the George Perez run, she did a series that looked back on the Golden Age stories of William Marston, HG Peter and Joye Hummel.
The four issue Legend of Wonder Woman series by Robbins and co-writer Kurt Busiek debuted in 1986 before the George Perez takeover of the character’s stories. With this series, Robbins became the first woman to draw Wonder Woman for DC Comics.
Also covering Trina’s upbringing in New York, her role in the underground comix movement, It Ain’t Me Babe Comix (the first all women’s comics anthology) and Wimmen’s Comix and her battles with censorship with Miller v. California (1973). Chaos ensues.
