This trick allows you to skip the Spiny fight, and the Catch Nabbit! minigame. This saves around 2:30 in a speedrun. This also means that it's possible to beat the game without Dash Socks (Catch Nabbit! Is impossible without them), and only rescue 20 Paper Toads (7%). This is likely slower since the Dash Socks save so much time from general movement, but no timing has been done yet.
This also means it's possible to finish the game only beating two fights, the first two in Sunbeam Plains. Only doing these two fights means that you will never level up, and can beat the game with Mario and Luigi at level 1, and Paper Mario at level 2 (he starts at level 2).
To do this, first run into the spot I do against the wall. Tap left repeatedly and Luigi and Paper Mario should move into the same spot as Mario. If you move up the wall you are too far up it, or not tapping straight left. Once in position, tap up very slightly. You may need to tap it multiple times, but you should stop when Luigi faces upwards. Now tap left and he should move closer to the wall, near Mario. Tap left again if he is not right next to the wall, then tap down. Now you should be able to get both Mario and Luigi past the wall by running left, but you may need to alternate tapping down and up a couple of times first.
Once they are both past the wall, run down-left and jump with Y to get Paper Mario onto the ledge. Now switch between up and up-left and Mario and Luigi should break free from Paper Mario. Run down, and let Paper Mario fall off the ledge. When he starts falling, hold left. Mario and Luigi will teleport towards him, but should remain in the wall. Make sure when Paper Mario falls of the ledge, the other two are relatively near by, as otherwise they will likely clip back in. Once Paper Mario is off the ledge, you can just hold left to be separated once again.
Now run around the map, and come along the bottom edge towards the loading zone at the bottom right. When running along you want to be a certain height on the screen, as this will prevent you from being pulled back towards Paper Mario. You want the top of Mario's hat to be anywhere from just above the tops of the arrows, to a bit off the bottom of the screen. DO NOT run back up a bit to adjust your position, as this can cause you to be instantly pulled back towards Paper Mario. Just hold the circle pad at angle just below right until you get into the right position, and then switch to straight right. The position is only important when you get near the loading zone, so you can take your time.
Once you're under the loading zone just press A and you'll jump into it.
The setup to get OoB isn't perfect, but I can get it within a couple of tries usually. Sometimes Luigi just won't face up when you tap up, and there doesn't seem to be anything you can do if that happens.
It is possible to clip all 3 in, following the same setup. It's just very inconsistent. It is faster though by about 20 seconds, as it means you can dash while going around to the loading zone OoB.
