Today I decided to test Mario Kart Wii at 1440p with nearly max settings since I recently got an RX 480 8GB. It has much better support for higher resolutions than my old GTX 960 2GB graphics card.

Here are the settings I used:
Backend: Direct3D 11
Fullscreen Resolution: 2560x1440
Internal Resolution: 4x Native (2560x2112) for 1440p
Anti-Aliasing: 8x MSAA
Anisotropic Filtering: 16x
Per-Pixel Lighting
Texture Cache: Safe

Here are the specs of the PC I used in the video:
CPU: FX-8320 (8 cores @ 3.5GHz)
GPU: Sapphire Radeon RX 480 Nitro+ 8GB
MOBO: Gigabyte 970 Gaming
RAM: 12GB DDR3
SSD: 500GB Samsung 850 EVO
HDD: 1TB Western Digital 7200rpm


I could have set the anti-aliasing to 8x SSAA but that would have been even more of a slowdown. I get a stable 60FPS with these settings, and with no frame limit I get around 170FPS in race. However, when recording using Dolphin's built in frame dumping feature, I only get about 30fps. That's why a lot of my spin drifts were messed up and why the menus were being navigated so quickly. I didn't edit the video because any editing, regardless of what video editor you use or what bitrate you render at, will reduce the quality a little. I want this to be as close as possible to what I'm seeing when playing MKWii.

In conclusion: Strong GPU + Dolphin = Beautiful.
