Getting the times to be the same was more fun than actually making the TASes. Basically, this is starting to get boring.

This is a series I have planned to collaborate solely with Charlie on, and we have about 10 of the tracks already done that just need to be recorded and edited (we started in April and have been putting it off for a while). In order for a track to count as being completed backwards, you must start in lap 1 and travel through all of lap 0 backwards, finishing by reaching lap -1.
The series will be uploaded gradually on both our channels, however once there are videos on both channels, I will set up a playlist so that people dont miss out on uploads. We will be going through the tracks of the CTGP 1.03-1112 update alphabetically, and returning to any past tracks if breakthroughs are made that change the statistics of the progression of the challenge (more on this later in the description).
The main issue with Abyssal Ruins is very similar to the previous failed attempt. Progressing further behind the final bounce pad is only possible if you respawn in at this location (https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/569999970770485271/888566977721933854/RMCE01-1127.png). This is not achievable as there is no way to achieve a respawn that far back.
What I attempt to do in this video is abuse the fact that you can get stuck in the floor to perform a floor ejection and bypass the sticky road in order to reach a distance further than the edge of the regular track. I manage to make it a significant part of way across but I still get nowhere near reaching the other side of the gap. The second thing I try to do is falling down on the rim of the underwater section at the start of the track in order to potentially find some way to maneuver myself behind the last bounce pad OOB. Unfortunately I get an instant respawn because the respawn plane extends out slightly over above the top of the underwater section. This will be the last failed attempt for a while so you get to enjoy the real stuff very soon.
There are a few statistics and various versions of this challenge that I will keep track of that allow for a better understanding of whats going on. Below is a list of all of them:
1. Completing the track backwards with the minimum number of respawns, where you have access to a certain amount of mushrooms (a = Infinite, b = 3, c = 2, d = 1, e = 0)
2. Completing the track backwards with the minimum number of respawns, then minimising the number of mushrooms from there
3. Completing the track backwards with the minimum number of mushrooms, regardless of respawn count
Abyssal Ruins has also failed to be completable backwards so does not have any statistics to offer:

This lap 1 time would yield a 2:03.5xx time.
Started on this in August 2022. Had no problems keeping myself motivated, even through multiple restarts from finding better ways to do tricks or more trick locations. What I wasnt able to overcome was finishing this entire lap 1 only to find a 0.1 timesave on the second turn of lap 2 (cutting behind the tree and hopping over the grass is faster) that applied to lap 1. I was really unhappy when this happened, since I was very much planning on finishing all 3 laps, and being left with either redoing a months work having a lap missing a major strat was too much.
Why am I uploading it this far in the future? Well, Ive finally remembered, wanted to, had time, and had motivation all at the same time. That is often the case for every TAS. So, if you ever ask why isnt [some TAS] finished yet?, give them a break, theyre trying their best. Were not machines.

This is a tool-assisted speedrun (TAS). Played on SwareJonges Dolphin 5.0 LUA Core v3.5.1. Tools used: slow-down, savestates, frame advance, TAS code, and RAM watch (info display).

I really didnt like that terrible MG TAS sitting there, and I wanted to improve it, so I did. Took a few hours to make and then another few hours to get on Youtube but here it is!
In this run you can now see the optimal cave ramp hop and also a few new faster strats on laps 2 and 3 (the drift on the single red mushroom, the RFH on the first green mushroom, the lap 3 ending strat). Yes, I intentionally lost 0.010 in order for the title/time to be what it is, youre not crazy seeing the faster times at the very end...
