Marie Petrovicka is the VP of International at Depop, where she’s helped re-launch their American market and develop their international strategy. She has worked at Depop since 2017, and became the VP of International in January of 2019. She was formerly at Boston Consulting Group.

In this video, Marie tells the story of Bella, a Canadian girl who leveraged her ability to find deadstock clothes (clothes which are no longer being manufactured) into a hugely successful enterprise. She details how Depop’s emphasis on entrepreneurship, community and sustainability has led to a huge uptake of the platform by Gen Z, and how they intend to continue developing the platform in the future.

Even before the coronavirus pandemic began earlier this year, the world had already moved to an increasingly digital setting. Emails, texts, video calls and social media interactions are now the main source of communication. Words convey only a fraction of the true meaning behind a message, and as a result, we are missing key physical, non-verbal cues that give us a more complete understanding of each other. What If machines could understand emotional signals and non-verbal communication just like humans? How can we build and decode artificial emotional intelligence to capture all of these signals?
