Last year’s Tour de France was a benchmark for women’s pro cycling. For the first time in years, women were racing the roads of France and this time it was a stage race and the women were center stage. The crowds were great and the TV coverage produced ratings. This was an important step in the overall growth of the sport. As the women’s pro peloton enters its follow-up campaign, we thought this was a good opportunity to get better acquainted with the riders leading the charge.
To help us put together our women’s pro peloton fantasy team, we have with us a veteran of the sport Alison Tetrtick. Ali, as her friends call her, spent ten years going elbow to elbow with the top women in the sport and since leaving she has remained engaged and in touch with the races and the riders she used to compete against. She has gone from super domestique to super expert in the sport. In addition to breaking down the road racing scene, we also get Ali to rank the women’s gravel field … because hey, since we’ve got an unbound champ on the show, why not talk a little dirt racing as well. Our conversation also covers the overall health of women’s racing, equity, pairty, and we even slip in a marginal gains question.
