In this reaction, I break down Rubio’s warning about the radical left, Marxist and communist ideology, political extremism, and the broader relationship between anti-Western movements and Islamic extremism.
Rubio argues that Western governments spent decades building an enormous counterterrorism infrastructure to confront Islamist extremism, while another ideological threat was allowed to grow largely unchecked: violent far-left extremism.
But there is an even larger question behind this conversation:
What happens when movements with radically different beliefs discover that they share a common enemy?
