In today’s episode, I’m taking you through a walkthrough of Marco Benedetti’s newly released Etteilla-style tarot deck, (Grand Jeu de l’Oracle des Dames) a modern interpretation rooted in one of the earliest systems of tarot divination.
This deck sits within the Etteilla tradition, developed from the work of Jean-Baptiste Alliette (Etteilla), who helped shape tarot into a structured system for fortune-telling. Over time, this system evolved through Etteilla I, II, and eventually Etteilla III, the 19th-century commercial and highly illustrative version that brought the system to a wider audience.
Marco Benedetti’s edition draws on this later Etteilla III aesthetic, featuring richly detailed, narrative-style imagery and a strong emphasis on traditional cartomantic meanings.
