This video shows the use of the CLEAPSS marble chip holder. On heating calcium carbonate, it decomposes to calcium oxide which at high temperature produces light (limelight). The reaction is quantitative, even at the microscale level . The crumbly product reacts with water exothermically to make calcium hydroxide solution.
